What makes you think you know better than parents what’s best for kids, Dr. Phil asks woke educators?

On Dr. Phil on Wednesday, parents and educators sparred over the woke curriculum being taught in schools. Both sides of the argument brought up the Parental Rights in Education Act, which Florida Governor Ron DeSantis put into law.

The current K–3 national sex education requirements state that by the third grade, the students should understand that a person can be either a boy or a girl, neither, or both. Tina Descovich, a co-founder of Moms for Liberty, said: “That is really alarming to our moms and to parents.” There is no need for a kindergarten teacher to teach that to 5-year-olds; instead, families should be having a conversation about it.

Later, she made a comment about how over the past few years, some material had been noticeably withheld from parents.

Descovich pointed to Equality for Florida executive director Nadine Smith and said, “The policies in the state of Florida, and this is directly from her organization, from when I was on the school board.” In the state of Florida, they have implemented procedures and regulations that not only fail to notify parents of the choices being made about the safety of their children, but also deliberately mislead them. We are really concerned about this, and one of the reasons why moms have rallied around our project is because they don’t want to be duped by educators.

Florida’s Parental Rights in Education statute, according to Professor Jody Armour, uses “vague and nebulous criteria” to the point that “you don’t know if you’re going to run afoul of them, you just avoid those conversations entirely,” chilling teachers.

Although educators do acknowledge the “parental rights framing,” Armour continued, “we also, as a public school system, want to educate citizens who are going to go out and be flourishing and survive in a democracy that’s multicultural.”

Dr. Phil retorted, “But the parents are responsible for that.” What makes you believe you know better than a parent about what should happen to a child when they have a life-determining decision about whether they’re going to make a decision about gender or anything else? They are in charge of the care and custody of their children. Before giving them a Tylenol, you need to contact.

Dr. Phil continued by saying that teachers cannot keep parents in the dark about the political ideologies that students are being taught in the classroom. “You can’t assume that this child isn’t allowed to take this information home.”
