Following the deadly shooting of a beloved Houston pastor in an alleged road rage incident, an Uber driver was detained and charged.

Police were told by witnesses that a road rage altercation led to the shooting. According to authorities and local media, an Uber driver was detained and charged after being accused of fatally shooting a well-liked Houston, Texas pastor.

According to Houston Police and KTRK , Deshawn Longmire, 23, was charged with murder in relation to the passing of Rev. Ronald Mouton, 58.

In a statement made public on Friday, the police said that the event took place on June 24 at 6400 Gulf Freeway. East Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where Mouton served as pastor for more than three decades, is a short drive from the property, according to KTRK.

The police said that when they arrived on the site, first responders informed them that Mouton had died from a gunshot wound.

According to the statement, witnesses informed police that they thought the incident was caused by a road rage altercation with a driver of a black sedan. According to the statement, officials connected Longmire to the case after conducting an investigation.

KTRK reported citing court documents that Longmire allegedly told authorities he was an Uber driver but was not close to the interstate at the time of the incident. A phone search purportedly refuted those assertions and showed that he was close to the incident.

Uber stated in an AA3 that Longmire’s access to Uber was terminated as a result of learning of the probe. Uber also stated, “Our sympathies are with Rev. Mouton Srfamily .’s and friends during this terrible time.”

The occurrence, according to Mouton’s family, was a “senseless tragedy,” and they requested seclusion.
